Blog philosophy and current events

I've been thinking a lot about why I blog, and who I blog for... my 'blog philosophy', for want of a better word. You'll note under my profile section that I've changed the "about me" section.

And so, in keeping with my blog philosophy of writing about the things I would be talking to you about, I thought I'd fill you in on two conversations which have been occurring with frequency in our household. The first involves the LHC (Large Hadron Collider), which of course had my husband entranced with its intricacies... but after he found this youtube video with a rap explaining how it all worked - he had me both laughing and interested. If I were a high school science teacher, I would definitely be showing this to my students...

We have also been talking a lot about the upcoming presidential elections... just 6 weeks away now. The recent announcement of Sarah Palin as John McCain's "running mate" has created such a stir here. I generally remain rather detached about politics - but I am now officially "invested" in the sense that I care about the outcome of the election and am following with interest. (And yes Nicolette, I can hear you thinking "It's about time!") After watching Rick Warren's interviews with both Obama and McCain, Palin's interviews with ABC, and then this weekend's SNL skit with Tina Fey... I am now engaged and interested, and hoping that things will be looking bluer when we return to the US on the day after the elections.

I LOVE the LHC video from YouTube!!! I think I'll show it to my students even though I am not teaching science. I think they'll love it!

Thanks for your comment! I'll try to be more careful with the pics ... So sad we'll miss you in SA - we'll only be in CT in December. About the scan - my doc has an amazing scan machine. Don't even have to go to a scan centre or anything; he does it all himself. Viva private SA healthcare!
