So who remembers?
In a different life with different choices, I think I might have liked to study child and developmental psychology. It is FASCINATING living with little children: how they learn and assimilate things, how language, thought and logic develops, how they make connections and mentally organize their world. To aid this all, they have amazing memories. Truly amazing.
For example, tonight Jeremy and Teg were talking about our upcoming trip to South Africa and seeing my granny again. (Background: My gran and I have a long history of trying to kiss one another in the neck and squealing in protest as the other one makes a dive for our neck, while the other tries to plant a kiss at the same time. Kind of like playing thumb war, but with heads)
Jeremy: Teg, when we are in South Africa and see nonna again, when you see her you must give her a kiss RIGHT IN HER NECK.
Teg: hmmm...
Jeremy: do you remember meeting nonna? You went to visit her and the fan broke and flew off right in front of you while you were there, do you remember that?
Teg: I remember walking with her in her garden, and looking at the birds. She has very lovely flowers in her garden.
That was two years ago. Yes. She remembers.
I, on the other hand, have difficulty remembering most of what happened yesterday. So before I forget let me commit these two little conversations with callum to writing. Just in case Callum himself does t remember them :-)
This morning after breakfast, me to Callum : please would you clear your plate.
Newly three year old Callum: it's actually a bowl, but I'll clear it (?!?!?!?!? Hello little lawyer?!?!?)
Callum Yesterday, after dropping a toy dump truck off the kitchen table and the skip at the back fell off: "awwww! It fell off! Is broken! I will ask God to fix it. (Mumble mumble fix it Mumble mumble) mom, He says no. He says he's busy with Jesus. (Pause) He doesn't love me."
What a heart-wrenching, endearing, hilarious, tragic moment!

Oh, Callum. Sweet boy, I ask God to fix me ALL THE TIME. And I often think His answer is just as you've described it. But He loves me anyway.
I am sure you have met Jennifer through Corinne; we were all in the same group as Jeremy. She studied child psychology and did her doctorate at Cal. If you really want to discuss things, she would be one of the persons! HOWEVER, I don'think you are saying that here in this blog entry. So I hope you learn as much about child development through real life experiences, and through the lens of our amazing, magnificent God.
