Spelling
Like his sister, Callum loves letters. Last night Jeremy and I laughed and laughed listening to our eldest two kids, neither of whom can spell, argue about the spelling of words in the car. "Mighty machines is spelled q-a-b-o" said Callum. "No it isn't," retorted his far wiser sister, " it's m-I-t-m-s-h-n" (closer, but no cigar).
Still, we delight in their delight of the humble a-b-c's and encourage them as they go.
One good place for spelling is in the bath, thanks to a wonderful set of foam bath letters they got from their aunt Taryn. Teg makes real words. Callum makes letter combinations and then asks us what they say. He makes "u-b-b-r-t" and I say that spells uhbert. He makes "z-y-I-y-d" and I say that spells zylid.
Last night he made a two letter word. I caught my breath wondering how I would pronounce this particular combo, but luckily for all involved he bailed me out and volunteered: "that spells SOAP!" Yes it does, buddy, yes it does.

Yup. SOAP. Like in your mouth if you ever say what that spells. Hahaha. Did your mom ever try that? I think I got soap in the mouth once. My mom and I ended up both laughing.
