Gene's photo shoot
So far, Gene is getting much less attention than Tegwyn (then Pip) got at the same stage of development. The first kid has you reading constantly on how fingers and toes are developing, when the organs actually go back into the abdomen instead of developing outside of it (weird, but true) etc... but I'm finding that with this second kiddo I am still focusing mostly on keeping up with my toddler, and trusting that God is doing his good designing and growing work while we aren't noticing...
But on Monday, WE NOTICED! We had our 13 week ultrasound and half on hour of Teg-less time to marvel at the new, 3-inch from crown-to-rump (jumbo shrimp sized!), little life kicking and waving at us. It was WONDERFUL! Gene looks strong and well-formed. S/He rolls around in his/her sleep a lot, and seems to like trying to hold his/her toes when awake. Very cute. Here are the pics!
In case you need some help figuring this out: this is Gene's profile shot. Head is upright and baby is facing to the right. Abdomen is beneath, and you can see one leg and foot in the picture. It looks a little kung fu to me: haai ya!
In the second pic Gene is sleeping in, yep... you guessed it.... the fetal position. Fetuses do that. Gene is facing forwards in this one, head on the left hand side, and you can see two arms and two legs that look like jelly baby appendages due to the limiting depth range of the ultrasound machine...
Yay for Gene!!!! Our next ultrasound is in just over 6 weeks: it's the big one where they measure all the limbs, spine etc... and they can also tell us if it's a boy or girl if we'd like to know. Any guesses, anyone?

This is the first time I've actually been able to see anything in an ultrasound. It's a little astounding how detailed it is!
Are you going to find out the sex at the next one, or keep it a surprise?
