Sweet moments in Amsterdam

We are in Amsterdam! Tegwyn and I are happily visiting with my dear friend Megs and her new husband in their lovely home in central Amsterdam... on a canal where the tall, crooked houses are! Yesterday we took a walk over cobbled streets and quaint bridges, past minute shops with tasty delicacies and potent, tiny cups of espresso, next to house boats and thousands of old-style bicycles... Aaah Europe! It is wonderful to be here.

My little one has been doing relatively well with the large amount of changes and 9 hour time difference. Last nights' sleep disruptions, however, afforded me my happiest mama moment to date. At around 1am Tegwyn woke up and did not want to go back to sleep. I was exhausted so pulled her into bed with me and let her play (throwing herself around the bed and rolling between the pillows) until she tired herself out. I realized some time later that she was getting more tired because she climbed up on my stomach a few times and laid her head down on me... and just a few minutes later she climbed up over my shoulder to find my face, laid her cheek down on my cheek, and went to sleep. We lay cheek to cheek while I listened to her breathing slow to a deep sleep in my ear, and then moved her over until we were snuggled forehead to forehead, where we slept for several more hours. Cheek to cheek with my baba. *sigh* I don't think it gets much happier than that :-)

Your blog reminds me of Louise Armstrong and Ella Fitzgerald's song "Dancing Cheek to Cheek", except that you were probably doing a little "dance of joy" inside your mind with Tegwyn. =) What a lovely portrait of mother and daughter!

Aaahhh.... so cute! This is the part of motherhood that makes it all worth while. Enjoy it!

Nellie's in a loving phase at the moment, so I'm getting tons of spontaneous hugs and cuddles and snuggles. I'm lapping it up because I know that all too soon the LAST thing she will want to do is cuddle with Mommy.

Looking forward to seeing you in a few weeks' time.
