Twenty days

Hi. My name is Bronwyn and I used to blog before I had three kids. Hahaha.

My current theory on newborn care is this: you survive the first few weeks. I am not entirely sure that my skill set in newborn care is any more advanced now than it was 4 1/2 years ago when we were first plunged into parenthood. But it seems to me that my newborns have outgrown their 'newbornness' with its attendant fussiness before we actually developed a sophisticated set of infant-care skills.

All that to say, this is baby number three and I still feel like we're winging it.

The only really big difference between this time and the first terrifying time round is that this time, I know the newborn phase is short-lived and whatever it is that's bugging my baby now, it will be different this time next week. I also now know that when it comes to crying or sleeping, it probably isn't so much me succeeding or failing in my nuanced obedience to Sears/babywise/happiest baby on the block or other baby expert. In my opinion, fussy or easy babies are 'luck of the draw'.

That being said, Declan is a pretty easy baby, and Teg and Callum have had a pretty easy time transitioning to being older sibling of a newborn. And so without further ado, here are a few photos to give you a glimpse into this hazy, crazy, joyful newborn phase (or should I say phazy?) we are in.

The highlight of the two big kids' day: getting to hold their baby brother.

First bath at home. Well, first wipe with a cloth. Sprinkling, not immersion.

This baby loves to be on the change table. He loves to be naked. He loves to kick his legs around. He loves it when people coo and gurgle at him.... it's a perfect distraction while he takes aim. (A word to those expecting baby boys: the peepee teepee doesn't always help)

This is super granny. EVERYTHING is easier, and EVERYONE is calmer when she's around.

Sometimes 5+ hours of breastfeeding a day can make you crazy.

Blue steel.

Most common comment from strangers in stores: "you have your hands full!"
Answer: "Yes, full of blessings."

OK, I know my body is pumped full of oxytocin right now and so I am biologically wired to think this, but isn't this the most beautiful baby you have ever seen? He is GORGEOUS!

The house was quiet. I went to investigate. I found Teg and Callum "playing baby" in my room.

Super baby! About ten days old...

More bath time cooing and gurgling, being rewarded with more intense looks of love.

Did you know you could fit three kids in a baby gym? Technically, yes, but Declan appears to be protesting the invasion of his space.

Privacy regained. Happiness is just me and the parrot...

Joining Daddy on his evening constitutional around the garden and pointing out the new vegetables sprouting:

That's all folks from my twenty day old boy!

Why do you do this to me? Post pictures of irresistible kiddos so that I frantically search plane fares and imagine what appendage to sell so I can get there NOW NOW!! (Do I really need a washer AND dryer in Houston? Or could that wait a month or two? Hmm. Baby, Washer, baby, washer. It's unclear. Must pray.) I know, your blog is for everyone and I have a choice to look or not to look, but I can't help myself. I am a sucker for you and yours. LOVE THAT BOY. LOVE.

OK, now let me prove to blogger that I am not a robot and send this comment before I freak out at the cuteness going on at your house (the monkey snuggle on your momma! Oh my. And the look of adoration during bath time? Seriously?)
