Cynic's prize

If I listen really carefully, I think I can hear God chuckling...

So last week our ever-diligent apartment management decided to have a residents' survey to determine whether the soon-to-be-remodelled bathrooms should have towel hooks (less expensive) or towel rails (which they currently have). As an incentive to fill in their survey, they were offering a gift certificate.

Yesterday I was walking around thinking dark, cynical thoughts. What started out as "I wonder whether they chose towels or hooks" turned into "I wonder who won the draw", which turned into "I bet they never even had the draw..." Then I started to imagine scenarios where I would go into the offices and ask "So, who won the raffle?", and in my mind I watched various degrees of lying proficiency as they struggled to come up with an excuse for not having had the draw after all...

Cynical me. Yesterday afternoon I got a call saying I had won the draw. I am totally ashamed of my cynical musings. I went in today with guilty gratitude to pick up my envelope. Can you hear God chuckling?

Whoo Hooo! I'm glad you won the drawing. Your input was probably worth the $25.00. Yay!

Good story. I totally have that feeling all the time, but I have personal experience of being on the business end of not having the drawing.
