Since mid-november..

Since mid-November, many cool things have happened.

My princess Pookie has turned FOUR.

My princess Pookie has discovered her inner pirate.

My Pookie has embraced the identity of ladybug girl.

My boy has learned how to be a pirate's apprentice (or an astronaut's, depending on the game):
he is officially on ex-toilet-roll binoculars duty.

My non-napping daughter was playing by herself during quiet hour with her new duvet (a 4-year old birthday present from granny). When things got really quiet during quiet hour I came in and found this: one snoring pookie in a heap in the corner on the floor. Can you see that cute snoozing hand peeking out?

I turned 35. And ate creme brulee to celebrate. With lovely ladies. Lucky, lucky me.

And best of all: my Mom was here.
(2nd best was that I got to wear a tiara. Which I raided from my daughters' 4-year-old-friends-dress-up-box. But it still felt real!)

Oh, and we are potty training Callum.
Last week we were in Target buying a) a spray bottle so I could mix a vinegar-water solution together in anticipation of needing to deodorize the house in the process and b) big-boy underpants for him to wear. While shopping Teg asked: Mom, when are we potty training Callum? (note how she considers herself part of the training team. nice.) Me: Next week Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday we'll be at home. Teg: Cool, that's the same day as your birthday. Me: Hmmm. Good point. We'll start on Tuesday :-)

And so here's a pic of Callum on Tuesday. Today is day 5. He's not completely there yet but he is doing GREAT! He loves the accolades. He loves that I'm plying him with ridiculous quantities of salty snacks (to make him thirsty) and juice (to quench that thirst)... so that he'll go more often. He loves the songs of praise we sing when we gets it right, but most of all - he LOVES TO FLUSH!

Friends, this is going to work.

That's all folks. Over and out for the weekend.

No doubt he will thank you one day for posting that pic of him on the potty. Don't show him your blog history until he is past the stage in which he is especially sensitive to embarrassment and in which he resents you being overt mommy-ish to him (because he thinks he's a grown up and you don't).

Oh my. I laughed at the binoculars shot. I laughed at the fact that Teg considers herself part of the potty team. I laughed at the picture of her all "bundled up" for nap time, and also felt really claustrophobic just looking at it. And I laughed that Callum loves to flush. So so funny!!!
