Notes from this week
This has been a pretty ordinary week. No big events or big parties. And yet, when I think about it, it has been an ordinary week filled with tiny, extraordinary things.
Like getting a chance to make new friends. A new girl friend for me, and a new couple friend for us. (Well, we've known them for years but never had the courage to invite them over before now). Wonderful!
Like getting the most precious medal I've ever received. A gold medal made by Teg, for being "the best soccer player in the house". Not that the competition was fierce, but I don't think I've ever been prouder of an award.
And autumnal art activities...
which require MUCH seriousness with gluing.
And much seriousness in choosing which piece of the garden to stick on the page next:
And much chuffed-ness with her selection:
And much joy at the result:
It was a week of good book reading. I finished "Dancing with Max" by Emily Colson, which I really enjoyed.
It was a week of hair-dressing. Informal hair-dressing, that is. And yes, those are plastic knives they are using to do each others' hair. Apparently it causes less trouble than combs.
And we did a whole bunch of clearing-out-of-closets which resulted in TWO wonderful discoveries. Firstly - I discovered an ENTIRE wardrobe of winter clothing in the next size up for Teg which has been donated by friends over the years. I had just been throwing random items into a big bucket "for later"... but once we went through the "for later" box I discovered she was FULLY kitted out for this winter. WHAT A BLESSING! We also discovered a box of soft-toys which were less-loved and less-played-with 6 months ago... and amongst them was a giant Curious George. He has become an instant hit again for both kids, who have invited George into their snuggly, giggly fellowship.
And perhaps most significantly: we moved our kids into the same room. We have always wanted our kids to share a room (even if we live in a 6 bedroom house!)... but have been concerned about the sleep-cost involved. But they are both great sleepers now and my Mom arrives next week, and baby #3 arrives in less than 6 months - so this was the time! They were TREMENDOUSLY excited. Behold Tegwyn's hand putting the final touches on the newly-lettered door.
They agreed on "Bob the Builder" as a decor theme for the room (go figure). So Amazon.com kindly provided some wall decals which they delightedly pasted on the wall. They think it's the coolest room they've ever seen, so it doesn't matter that we think it looks random and not-so-stylish. We never were a pottery-barn catalog kind of family anyway.
Good week.
Life is full of little blessings to be savored and appreciated. Thanks God for joy in shared rooms, wardrobes full of FREE, warm and perfectly-fitting clothing, new friends, nice books, and even for dentists who can help with my teeth hurt. So much to be thankful for.

And more sneaky, silly faces from Teg... to cheer my heart after a discouraging day with massive toothache.

What an uplifting post! I love Teg's silly face and knives to do hair! Haha! And, yes, the kids names on the door signifies so much more than consolidation of space- the years I spent sharing a room with my sister were magical. I think we got into more trouble for being "too silly" rather than fighting. What a gift for them both! And less than 6 months?!! Woohoooo! Glad it was such a great week for you!! xoxo
