To do list...

I was looking through "The List Issue" of my Real Simple magazine: the whole mag is devoted to creative lists of various kinds. As I browsed through lists of places to visit, things to update in my wardrobe, people to contact, hobbies to pursue etc, I came across a far more intimidating list: "To-Do List for 2009!"

I decided to solicit some help from my dear husband: "So, what is on our to do list for this year?" I asked.

He paused for a moment. "Get a job. Find a new place to live. Finish the PhD," he replied, nonplussed.

I wrote all three down and then considered the list. "Sweetie," I said to him, "this looks great, but what should I do in 2009?"

"That is your list," he said.

My slack-jawed surprise quickly turned to laughing at Jeremy's dry humour. But now, a couple of days later, I'm wondering: what if he wasn't joking???
