The humbling of the no-no's
She's gone and done it. She's taken it to the next level.
My sweet, babbling child, whose vocabulary has consisted mostly of doh-doh-doh's these past few months, has had an EXPLOSION of new sounds in the past week. New syllables, and lots of new language-like cadences. At times its pretty funny (I'll post a video later), at times its sweet (she tries to imitate our sounds: "bihn" for "Bernie" the bear), but today it's just humbling.
I think I imagined that I would have a sweet, sharing, kind little toddler: chattering and endearing herself to others just as she has been for the past few months. So I'm more than a little mortified that my little sinner is showing her true colours: grabbing toys, not sharing, and shouting NO NO NO NO NO NO whenever another kiddo touches what she's touching. Or even when another kiddo is holding a toy (which, amazingly, only becomes interesting to her once the other kid picks it up). Removal of said toy from Teg's grubby, grabby hands ends up in one of three ways:
1) Acqueisence and distraction (desirable, but definitely less common)
2) Tears (occasional)
3) No No No No No No! (most common, and LOUD!)
Oh dear. Interventioinist Mommy (as opposed to doting mommy, or prepared mommy) needs to get her boots on. Possibly with a cape. The no-no's have arrived, and I'm trying not to take it personally.

Ah, yes, that dreaded "milestone"... :) Have fun.
My 14 month old niece has taken it a step further: she will hold a toy or cookie out to her sister, then yank her hand back and shout "NO!!!" The forcefulness of the "no" from these sweet little girls is quite impressive! :)
