Hazel Eyes

Tegwyn was born with wide-open, alert eyes... and since the first hour we've been wondering what colour her eyes would land up being. At first they seemed to be gray-blue, with a navy ring around them, but in the past 2 months they have seemed to be occasionally green, with flecks of brown, but still gray/blue around the edges. At times I described them as "oil-slick" eyes, simply because they seemed to have so many different colours in them.

"The Baby book" says that babies' eye colour stabilizes at about 6 months, so with Teg reaching that mark this past Wednesday I was making jokes about how she had 3 days, then 2 days, then 1 day etc to "make up her mind" about what colour her eyes were going to be.

As it turns out, her eyes HAVE settled in colour, and I have learned a new thing: what colour HAZEL eyes are. I had always heard of hazel eyes and thought it was a pretty way of saying 'brown', (like brunette is the more glamorous form of brown when it comes to hair colour). Turns out, I am wrong. Hazel is a colour all of its own. As wikipedia describes it: "Hazel eyes often appear to shift in color from a light brown to a medium golden-green. A number of studies using three-point scales have assigned "hazel" to be the medium-color between light blue and dark brown. This can sometimes produce a multicolored iris, i.e., an eye that is light brown near the pupil and charcoal or amber/dark green on the outer part of the iris (and vice versa) when observed in sunlight."

And what's more, having looked at the pictures and read the description of the color for the first time, Jeremy has now, at the age of 35, finally discovered what colour his eyes are: hazel!
