Adventures in baby food
The list of things Teg eats has grown quite long! Amongst other things, she eats mangos, nectarines, tofu, cream cheese, rice pudding, cous cous, zucchini, beets etc. There have been a couple of things which have surprised me in this experimentation process...
* Cream cheese, bananas and apple sauce make a VERY tasty pureed combo.
* You can add baby cereal to ANYTHING. Ditto apple sauce.
* I now know what turnips and parsnips taste like.
* No matter how long a baby gums on a snippet of chicken, it won't break down. There are some things you just need teeth for. Note to self: puree the chicken!
* Organic fruit tastes better than regular fruit. I'm not sure if it's because organic fruit tends to be more the locally produced, tree ripened stuff - but the difference is massive! Organic peaches all the way!
* There is no point in trying to cook edamame longer to make it easier to puree. It gets tougher, not softer.
* Pureed prunes never quite freeze. They just make a very cold slush...
* What goes in comes out. Beetroot makes for somewhat alarming diapers.
And so the adventures in parenting continue :-)

Aah..."What goes in comes out" is true for all ages...
What, please, is edamame, and WHY would you even try feeding Teg parsnips and turnips???
I was also about to ask what edamame is! If you want alarming nappies, try paw paw... Shot for making your own baby food! Miss you guys
by the way, I'm 8 weeks pregnant! All looks fine so far this time.
edamame are soy(a) beans in a pod. They look like peas. Served in Japanese restaurants. Absolutely one of my FAVOURITE things to munch on...
Irene: parsnips and turnips were suggested by this baby food book my sister gave me - and the author said "babies love parsnips". This got me intrigued, so I bought some at the grocery store. The author was right! They look like white carrots, and are also sweetish, with a slight tang. Very yummy....
Kate: YAY!!!!!!!! (and as for pawpaw - I will have to try that back in SA. It was my favourite food as a baby, and so I was eager to give some to Teg - but you cannot buy a decent paw paw - aka papayas here - for love or money. They just aren't the same...)
